Overview

The Periodontics Department in GSL Dental College has separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections equipped with modern dental chairs fitted with ultrasonic scalers as per Dental Council of India guidelines.


The Department of Periodontics is actively engaged in the educational, research, and community services of the College. Our curriculum includes undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing education programs with a focus on evidence-based periodontics and implant dentistry. Clinical training emphasizes the understanding of periodontal and peri-implant health and treatment of associated diseases. The department also provides instruction via continuing dental education courses to practicing dentists. Faculty members are actively involved in basic, translational, and clinical investigation and provide students mentorship and guidance in research.


The department has well qualified and experienced teaching faculty on a permanent full time teaching basis. All types of periodontal treatment are provided to the patients at a minimal cost.


The didactic areas of instruction include the normal periodontium at the macro and microscopic level, periodontal pathology including intra-oral lesions associated with periodontal conditions, periodontal microbiology and immunology, pain control and pharmacology applicable to periodontal treatments, cell biology, wound healing including periodontal regeneration, dental implantology, case management, epidemiology and statistics in Periodontology.


Activities of the department:

Basic training to students regarding infection control, plaque control methods, waste disposal. Hands on training to students regarding ultrasonic scaling and root planing, assisting during periodontal surgeries. Discussion and hands on training of Dental Laser Unit. Discussion and Hands on training of Electrocautery. Discussion and hands on training for dental implants. Presentation of seminars and journal clubs by students and interns. Conducted professional enrichment program for practitioners supported by ISP. Active involvement in dental screening camps and community services

: Slide projectors and over-head projectors are provided for demo purpose. LCD projectors provided in all class rooms for presenting study material through power point presentations. The advanced educational tool - Anatomage table a unique highly flexible user friendly electronic device to study any part in any desired plane is provided in smart lab (Simulation lab) with extension display screens in all teaching areas to provi display during theory classes along with extempore presentations, Power point presentations or chalk and board.

A spacious well furnished room with 100 titles and journals from national and International organizations are regularly being made available to students and postgraduates for academic and research purpose

Regular MBBS admissions, Post graduates of M.Sc. (Medical) anatomy and Anatomy MS are taken every year. Equipment and facilities for section cutting and staining are provided.

A total of 446 hrs teaching program adopted to provide comprehensive learning in all regions of anatomy. Dissection, Demonstrations, Histology classes are organized to cover same topic/region for synchronized study and orientation
