The Department of Orthodontics and
Dentofacial Orthopaedics, established in 2013, offers
an undergraduate BDS and three-year post-graduate MDS program which was started in 2019,
accredited
by the Dental Council of India. The department deals in the treatment of patients with
dentofacial
deformities predominantly dental and skeletal malocclusions, craniofacial deformities,
particularly
cleft lip and palate with a variety of treatment protocols with modern armamentarium.
The undergraduates are trained in basic wire bending skills, orthodontic
diagnosis,
case selection, removable appliance fabrication and management of simple dental
malocclusions.
Postgraduates are trained to impart comprehensive orthodontic treatment which includes
growth
modulation, fixed appliance treatment, surgical Orthodontics and management of TMJ
disorders.
The department has separate working clinics for postgraduate and under graduate students. A central sterilization room looks after the overall sterilization and disinfection of instruments, materials, working area, and laundry. Weekly seminars, journal club presentations and tutorials for students are conducted in the seminar room. Department has the latest audio-visual facilities and free access to high speed internet. Postgraduates have separate room for themselves where they have their individual lockers to keep their records and personal belongings Department has a good patient inflow. On an average about 30 to 40 patients visit the department for treatment daily. At the undergraduate level, we impart training as small group discussion as well as individual manner so as to prepare a student to diagnose and treat the diseases of malocclusions of teeth on a daily practice basis and make appropriate referrals for advanced care. It also trains students for further training in department of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. The postgraduate program in orthodontics aims at producing a graduate competent in teaching, clinical work and research activities.

Academic and research activities
The faculty, post graduate students and undergraduate students are encouraged to attend conferences and workshops and present scientific papers, posters and table clinics. In addition to their library dissertation,postgraduate students are encourage to takeup shortterm collaborative research projects and publish the same in peer reviewed indexed journals. The department has also been instrumental in organizing seminars, symposia and workshops periodically. Our faculty have been invited as resource persons and both students and faculty have won several awards and prizes for their presentations at various national and international scientific forums of reputate.

In library they have an access to all journals pertaining to orthodontics which help them to keep up to date regarding the updates in diagnosis and treatment planning and mechanics.

The under graduatesin the department impart training as small group discussion as well as individual manner so as to prepare a student to diagnose and treat the diseases of malocclusions of teeth on a daily practice basis and make appropriate referrals for advanced care. It also trains students for further training in department of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

The undergraduates have a separate circulam which includes wire bending exercises and cephalometric analysis and case history taking and fabrication of removable appliances as a part of their academic schedule.
Every student will be encouraged to do removable appliances for patients and also encourage them to learn bonding procedures as well as other treatment modalities which help them to Improve their clinical knowledge and work experience.
